Every two years, the Insects to Feed the World conference becomes the focal point for everyone in the insect as feed and food industry. The forum gives experts around the world the unique opportunity to learn, network, and collaborate. The past fifth edition at the end of June 2024 hosted by The Asian Food and Feed Insect Association in Singapore was no exception.
Nasekomo shares the believe that humans can live in a world where nutritious food, essential feed, and potent fertilizers are accessible to all and produced sustainably through local circular economies powered by the transformative nature of insects. Therefore, Nasekomo was a proud sponsor of this premier global event in the insect industry.
During the conference Nasekomo’s co-founder Xavier Marcenac and the R&D Director Marco Tulio Tejeda had the opportunity to present the Nasekomo franchise model and the joint initiative with Groupe Grimaud in establishing the first company in the world to specialize in insect genetic selection – Fly Genetics.

During IFW2024 conference Nasekomo talented and visionary scientists presented three research papers supporting the advancement of Hermetia illucens industrial rearing.
One of the most important factors for scaling the industrialization of insects raring is the availability of eggs. Bartosz Grodzki, head of Nasekomo Multiplication Center, presented a study dedicated to reproductive system development and assessment in Hermetia illucens females. The research was very well received, it raised many questions and provoked interesting discussions.
The brand new Hermetia illucens standard diet, invented by Nasekomo’s team, that can be used from all BSF farms was also among the knowledge developed internally and shared at the conference by Mirena Zhelezarova, Bioprocess engineer. For the three days of the event Sofia Diet received much appreciation, marking also the importance of standardization in insects industrial rearing.
Insects’ beneficiary effects in poultry farming – the effects of an additional feeding of hens with Hermetia illucens live larvae on egg quality and hens’ wellbeing, was another topic selected to be shared with the audience. The research was presented by Nasekomo Senior Researcher Adelina Petrova.

The insect industry is driven by innovation, sustainability, and the quest for food security. What Nasekomo’s role in it is to grow this industry from fringe to mainstream by empowering its network of franchisees and clients with a complete portfolio of turnkey solutions.
Nasekomo completed successfully a project on scaling up the insect industry’s green impact through the deployment of innovative industrial insect multiplication technologies. The project was kicked-off in July 2021 under Innovation Norway, the Norwegian Government’s instrument for supporting innovation and development.
The main objective of the project was to increase the company’s competitiveness through development of a series of technologies leading to an automated insect multiplication and bioconversion allowing the production at industrial scale of sustainable and environmentally friendly insect’s proteins.
The technology deployed within the project allows Nasekomo to implement its strategy of creating a circular ecosystem in which the company can not only to supply the feed manufacturers with high-quality sustainable insect-protein products, but also to operate as specialized service provider to other companies who either already have waste streams they need to responsibly dispose of (waste management companies and agro-industrials) or companies looking to enter the industry to diversify their portfolio – energy, utilities, construction companies. Project objectives enabled also further growth of an already green and circular industry – the insect industry.
Within the project Nasekomo deployed four main groups of solutions that enabled the functioning of company’s Insect Multiplication Centre and the supply of neonate larvae to insect bioconversion farms:
- Neonate Qualifier deployment – neonate analysis technology that is AI- and machine-learning-enabled. The Neonate Qualifier will sort young larvae based on a set of criteria such as size, diameter, shape, mobility, health parameters (e.g. presence of parasites), etc.
- Aligning the output of neonates from the Multiplication Center to the amounts of larvae needed by the bioconversion centers. The solution will allow Nasekomo to control the amount of larvae produced by the IMC in accordance to the demand from the IBFs through cool storage where larval development can be slowed down.
- Deploying technology for transferring neonates into cool-storage
- Transport of the neonates to the bioconversion space and seeding (placing the larvae) on organic biomass.
