Nasekomo to present automated insect farming platform AIR2B at EuroTier 2026

04 Nov 2026

The biotech company will showcase its integrated approach for predictable insect farming

Nasekomo, a European biotechnology company developing technologies for industrial insect production, will present its fully automated platform for black soldier fly rearing, named AIR2B, at EuroTier 2026 in Hannover, Germany, from 10 to 13 November. At the world’s leading trade fair for professional livestock farming, the company will position itself as a technology provider for businesses looking to develop, modernize or scale up insect-based production.

AIR2B (Automated Insects Rearing Beds and Bots) replaces conventional crate-based rearing with vertically arranged growing beds in a production column, where the larvae remain from seeding to harvest. In a reference configuration designed to process 25,000 tons of wet feedstock per year, AIR2B requires approximately 20 growing beds, compared with around 60,000 crates in a conventional cassette-based system, and eliminates the need for a separate crate washing line.

Each column is served by a dedicated multi-purpose robot that moves horizontally across the beds and vertically between floors, performing the main operations of the growing process: substrate mixing, monitoring, environmental adjustments, harvesting and bed cleaning. The robot’s integrated sensors are connected to digital control systems that continuously collect production data, allowing operators to monitor conditions throughout the cycle and intervene in time.

The platform’s key features include:

  • Crateless architecture: vertically arranged growing beds with 4 to 12 production levels.
  • Deep substrate cultivation: substrate layers up to 15 cm, allowing higher production densities.
  • High processing capacity: up to 24 tons of raw material loaded on each floor per production cycle.
  • Automated operations: a single multi-functional robot manages the main physical operations on each production line.
  • Data-driven management: integrated monitoring and control maintain constant operating conditions and continuous optimization.
  • Modular design: capacity can be expanded by adding lines, so facilities can grow in line with operational requirements.

AIR2B was developed and validated through Nasekomo’s own experience in industrial operation and reflects the company’s approach to turning insect biology into a controlled, repeatable production process.

Alongside AIR2B, Nasekomo’s portfolio includes selective BSF genetics, automated breeding systems and patented brood suspension technology that allows young larvae to be transported in a suspended state of development without active cooling. Together, these technologies address key requirements for a predictable biological supply and consistent production performance.

At EuroTier, Nasekomo aims to connect with insect producers, livestock and feed companies, engineering groups and equipment manufacturers interested in developing new applications, integrating technologies or expanding their operations in the insect farming sector.

Background

As the insect farming industry moves towards industrial-scale deployment, its focus is shifting from the biological potential of insects to the technologies that can make production reliable, efficient and cost-effective. Black soldier fly larvae can transform organic by-products from agriculture and the food industry into valuable feed additives rich in proteins and lipids, but turning that potential into industrial output requires a technological system that manages the entire process – from genetics and breeding to larval processing, rearing, harvesting and process control.

Nasekomo builds its technologies around these challenges, combining biological expertise with automation, robotics, sensors and data-driven process management to tackle biological variability, labour-intensive operations, inconsistent production conditions and the need for reliable productivity at high volumes. The company’s participation in EuroTier reflects its strategic focus on bringing proven insect production technologies to a wider industrial market through technology partnerships and integrated solutions.

About EuroTier 2026

EuroTier is the world’s leading trade fair for professional livestock farming and livestock management, organized by the German Agricultural Society (DLG). Held from 10 to 13 November 2026 in Hannover, Germany, it brings together international companies, livestock specialists, technology providers and industry experts. Under the theme “Intelligence in Livestock”, this year’s edition will showcase innovations in breeding, nutrition, animal health, automation, robotics, digitalisation and sustainable production systems.
